You’ve heard this question come up at some point or another. It normally implies:
- Did you get everything in your shopping list?
- Or at least gather all the money for the things on the list?
- Coordinate who’s cooking turkey and baking pies?
- Decide whether to visit or host.
- And the list goes on and on…
To me, this question is a loaded one… Not sure if it is because the new stage of adulthood or the anticipation of taking full responsibility of purchasing gifts, makings grand dinners, and/or hosting…. but considering my stage in life, I am sure no expert of any of the above! But, through all the busyness of the holiday season, there are priceless things that I look forward to every year, without fail!
So without further a due, here’s what I look forward to this holiday season:
1. Spending Time with Family
Living states apart with an array of different lifestyles, the holiday season tends to slow things down enough where we can pick up right where we left off. My brothers get show me their latest dance moves and update me on the trends of social media (what better way to keep up with this fast moving world!) These moments, I bottle up in my memory bank and go to whenever I need a dose of “hashtag blessed.”
2. Sharing the Kitchen
When family comes over, this tends to happen automatically: I plan to take care of the meals, clean up, etc… but, then get some extra loving hands that want to take over and give the wonderful gift of “break from the kitchen.” With family whose taken over holiday dinners over a much longer coarse of a lifetime, this is one of the privileges I get to enjoy during this time of year.
3. Staying Indoors
As a homebody, I enjoy how the cold weather promotes indoor activities. Whether you enjoy playing a good old fashioned board game with all cell phones further than arms length or watching a marathon of Christmas films, it’s always nice to do some catching up with the home. Home is where the heart is, right?
